OceanView™
OceanView is a powerful Geographic Information System (GIS) for
use in the office environment. It is designed for installation at
companies such as ship-owners, shipbrokers, ship managers and ship
operators. Based on the comprehensive CM-93/3 chart database, this
is an entry into worldwide coverage of electronic vector
charts.
Visual Information
The primary idea behind OceanView™ is to provide an easy exchange
of geo-referenced information between multiple users. All
information is displayed on a chart background giving a
comprehensive, easy to understand illustration of the situation. The
Database Wizard is an intelligent function in Ocean View that allows
the user to link his own databases to the cartographic system.
Various other types of information can be linked to the charts, such
as vessel position and vessel information, MS Office documents,
pictures, links to web sites, email addresses etc.
Chart Database
OceanView™ is designed for use with the latest CM-93 Edition 3
chart database from C-MAP. This chart database contains vector
charts covering all navigable waters of the world. Most charts are
updated with the latest Notices to Mariners as and when they are
published. OceanView™ also contains a tide prediction function for
tidal nodes throughout the world. Tidal predictions can be
graphically displayed for any chosen date. OceanView™ also has the
possibility to export screenshots to standard graphic file formats
such as BMP or JPG. These are graphic files that are excellent for
use in reports and publications. Views can also be saved as
bookmarks that can easily be exchanged between multiple users by
email or within office network. ENC The CM-93/3 chart database is
fully compliant with the IHO S-57/3 specification, and ENC'S from
Hydrographic Offices can be added in SENC format and displayed in
OceanView™.
A strong combinationThe combination of OceanView™ in the
office enviroment and a CM-93/3 based ECS or ECDIS on board provides
unique features to the operators. One important factor is the
ability to exchange vital information between vessels and the
office, for instance import and export of route plans. When
subscribing to the IMO's Search & Rescue service (SAR), the ECS
on board can immediately alert the mariner when the vessel
approaches a new SAR area. This function is now mandatory on the
passenger vessel.
OceanView in practical use
The daily operation of a vessel creates in itself a lot of
challenges. Many of these challenges have to be resolved on the spot
and may involve several persons located at different places.
OceanView™, with its data exchange features, can easily meet such
requirements and allow the users to achieve a clear overview of any
situation by a quick glance at the screen. When using a wall screen,
a group of people can study the same subject. The IMO regulations
for emergency readiness require a portfolio of charts that
corresponding to the vessels voyage, to be present in the office.
With OceanView™ and CM-93/3 worldwide subscription, you never lack
charts for this purpose. OceanView™ also has a unique
screen-printing function.
ENC
The CM-93/3 chart database is fully compliant with the IHO S-57/3
specification, and ENC's from Hydrographic offices can be added in
SENC format and displayed OceanView™.
Remote Automatic Updating
Users can link-up to the update database at C-MAP Norway in order
to transfer updates according to Notices to Mariners. This is an end
user service for subscribers available via internet or Remore Access
Server (RAS) and can be accessed through Inmarsat, GSM or standard
telephone line connections. The highly compressed data contains all
necessary information to load updates directly into the main
database with no additional user intervention required.
*Extra info
OceanView™ has been installed at the IMO headquarters in London
where it is being used as a tool in their day-to-day operations. The
IMO had several specific requirements for a geo-referenced
information system with the aim of improving their efficiency and
service capabilities to member states and end users.
In addition OceanView™ can be tailored to include functionality
for individual end user requirements. Such individual users may be
fishing research centres, Hydrographic Offices,(with catalogues of
their paper and electronic charts), National Maritime
Administrations, Costal zone Management,
etc.
